Musical Jackpot but economic disaster – LAS VEGA CLOSED

When you play music that’s not all that mainstream one of the most important recordings in the history of jazz readily comes to mind. I’m thinking of Chasin the Train from the Live at Village Vanguard album where after almost twenty minutes of a mind blowing Coltrane solo that all lovers of modern jazz have listened to umpteen times, a few people in the audience absentmindedly clap their hands a little.

At Las Vega during the last five saturdays we did not have a recording company registering the music so in the future you will not be sitting listening to your favorite album thinking ”I should have been there” because after an audience of 36, 26, 16, 10, 3 we will close the place. So you will not have the chance to hear Amanda Sedgwick, Fredrik Nordström, Bernt Rosengren, Roland Keijser-Joakim Milder, BKS, Sir Thomas Jäderlund, Elsa Bergman or Jonas Kullhammar-Fredrik Ljungqvist at this wonderful place.

A heartfelt thanks to the musicians who played wonderfully for a very small remuneration during five lovely nights and to Pygméteatern, Steve Roney, Göran Kindlund, Jon Edergren and the other people who helped with the arranging.

När man spelar smal musik får man ibland osökt anledning att tänka på en av jazzhistoriens viktigaste inspelningar, Chasin’ the Train från skivan Live at Village Vanguard. När det närmare 20 minuter långa intensiva och stilbildande Coltrane-solot som nästan alla jazzmusiker har hört ett otal gånger, är slut, hör man en handfull i publiken som applåderar lite lojt.

På Las Vega hade vi inte något skivbolag som spelade in konserterna så därför kommer man inte att kunna sitta och tänka, ”där skulle man ha varit!” och nu är det för sent att gå dit för vi lägger ner verksamheten efter att ha haft 36, 26, 16, 10, 3, betalande gäster vid våra musikaliskt otroligt lyckade lördagskvällar. Så chansen att få höra Amanda Sedgwick, Fredrik Nordström, Bernt Rosengren, Roland Keijser-Joakim Milder, BKS, Sir Thomas Jäderlund, Elsa Bergman och Jonas Kullhammar-Fredrik Ljungqvist på detta supertrevliga ställe i höst är förbi.

Tack till de musiker som spelat fantastisk musik för usla gager under fem fina kvällar och till Pygméteatern, Steve Roney, Göran Kindlund, Jon Edergren och de andra som hjälpt till med arrangemangen.
