The Amigo series of Hindustani classics
Five Hindustani Maestros
[900]
Virtuoso Nikhil Banerjee, one of this century’s greatest masters of the Indian sitar, passed away in 1986 at the age of 55. Banerjee was widely acclaimed for his intensely individualistic pursuit of the poetry of raga. Nikhil Banerjee studied northern Indian classical music with the sarodist Ustad Allauddin Khan of Maihar, father of sarodist Ustad Ali Akbar Khan and sitarist Annapurna and also teacher of Ravi Shankar and Pannalal Ghosh.
While giving concerts in Sweden during the eighties swedish label Amigo recorded two albums with him together with the great tabla maestro Anindo Chatterjee.
These are the last copies of these highly respected albums. They are not available from anywhere else but now, in 2018, they have been digitised.
