“The Dagars = Dhrupad”

Ustad Zahiruddin Dagar and Ustad Faiyazuddin Dagar are known as Dagar Brothers Junior as they are the two youngest of the four sons of the great Dhrupadiya Nasiruddin Dagar, the eldest two being Moinuddin and Aminuddin Dagar, well known as the famous Dagar Brothers.

A visit to their cousin

In January 1968 they visited Bombay for some concerts and on the 15th they made a courtesy call to their cousin Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar, the famous beenkar in Chembur. In the early afternoon they were inspired to sing and then a most unique thing happened, Ustad said he wanted to accompany them ….. on tabla, something…

none of us present ever heard earlier (or later)!

An hour and fifteen minutes later we had enjoyed an extremely inspired version of Multani raga with excellent tabla accompaniment in pakhawaj style by Ustad. Now you can share this with us lucky few who heard it live.

A few days later the brothers did a private concert accompanied by tabla legend Ravi Bellare. It will be released early in 2023.
