Raag Chandrakauns in a recording from a private concert
in Stockholm 1969 with two of the real giants of Hindustani music, Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar on rudra veena (been) and Pandit Taranath on pakhawaj.
I invited them to stop by in Stockholm on the way back to India
In the spring of 1969 Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar and Pandit Taranath Rama Rao were returning from their first teaching trip to U.S. Z. M. Dagar had been at Wesleyan and Taranathji at Ravi Shankar’s school in L.A. if I remember right. Since I was learning from Taranathji and had stayed in the same house as Dagarsaheb in Chembur I invited them to stop by in Stockholm on the way back to India and managed to secure a few playing occasions for Swedish Radio and TV as well as a couple of concerts. One of them was a private concert in the atelier of the late Swedish painter Axel Törneman in Stockholm. The sound from the private concert is quite good and the music is of course wonderful so, we are happy to offer you their Raag Chandrakauns from this evening. – Bengt Berger

I’m sorry to say…
there is a technical error on our Zia Mohiuddin Dagar-Pandit Taranath album. In between the tracks there is a pause of second or two, the parts of the piece are supposed to sound without interruption. Feel comforted by the fact that when it’s not silent, that is 99+% of the time, the music is awesome.
