Off To India

So I’m going there now to meet old musician friends and take part in “The Season”, the worlds most active music festival with more than 50 concerts a day during all of december and with all the greatest south indian musicians taking part.

Then in the beginning of january I’ll go to Thiruvananthapuram for the Swathi Sangeethotsavam, from January 4th till January 13th, 2013. It is going to be extra special this time, as it would be the 200th year of composer Swathi Thirunal’s birth.

Finally I will visit Sadanand Naimpalli and the other tabla gurubhais (students of the late Pandit Taranath) in Bombay for a few days before heading back home on january 19.

Here is a photo from Tirunelveli 1969 with my mridangam guru late P.S. Devarajan. In South India I’m known as Sopan Dev, a name given to me by Swamy Haridhos in the sixties. – Bengt Berger
