Christian Spering

Posted 2013-08-12

Christian Spering, the fabulous bass player has finally released a solo album where he performs inspired versions of Bach classics, improvises around them and plays two own pieces.

This is what author Niklas Rådström, a frequent collaborator, says about Christians album that will be released at two concerts in Stockholm and Gothenburg on october 20-21:
In “Inside Bach” Christian Spering, one of Sweden’s foremost instrumentalists all categories, recaptures the Bach that was not only a master of counterpoint and the polyphonic musical form, but also an outstanding improviser. In a gentle motion between inquiring improvisation and a strong fidelity to the composer’s notation Spering opens the music to an intimate presence beyond genres and traditions and also provides a couple of longer pieces with echoes and loops which gives the polyphonic expression a new form. “Inside Bach” shows the old organist in Leipzig as at one and the same time our obvious contemporary and completely timeless.

Christian Spering is one of the greatest bass players anywhere today. He has been a part of Berger Knutsson Spering since our start in 1996 and is a major ingredient on several C&E albums:

Reviews in swedish:
DN
Tack! Lysande!
